Weekend away

This weekend was the first time my fiancé and I had gone away with the car club for the weekend, my parents were going too (as they always do, they got us into it) and my first real red flag weekend.  I wasn’t in control of my meals, it was dining out most of the time and a real challenge so I thought.
Fri night was just to travel up to Nagambie and meet everyone, we could join in with them for dinner if we wanted to but it was just a social gathering and only if we got there early.  We’d already decided we would just take our time and have our own light dinner that night.  We arrived at the caravan park at about 8pm.  OH went and got some fish n chips while I had my own cauliflower soup that I’d brought with me and 2 pieces of mountain bread.  All within the calories for the day – very happy.
Saturday morning, I wanted to go for a run but it was pouring with rain and cold so I decided to have my rest day instead, just had to be extra extra extra careful with the food intake.  Sunday I’d go for my run as it was meant to be heaps nicer.  I knew this weekend I wouldn’t get a SSS in, but getting out for an hour’s run one of the day’s was my aim.
Saturday – own breaky, met the group at 10am for the briefing then off we went on the first section of the course.  We’d drive through the countryside then meet at a meeting point for morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea then back to the caravan park for pre-dinner drinks/nibbles before a formal dinner.  Lunch was great, everyone else had a sausage roll and salad at a little country café but as I have food intolerances I got to chose from the menu and instead had this delicious steamed chicken with spinach, a poached egg salad.  It was delicious actually!  Morning and Afternoon tea’s were BYO’s or bought at a bakery/café so again I was in control a bit more there and just had my muesli bar and banana.  Pre-dinner drinks I kept myself to a couple of diet cokes, and was starving by about 6pm so had to nibble on some carrot sticks – proud of myself for not having sakatas and dips etc.  Evening meal was going to be the big one.  A three-course meal was planned.  As I have my special requirements etc I spoke to the chef.  They’d organised a GF pita pizza for entre!! Yes that was entre!! I thought, oh no this is going to go way over the cal count for the day…I could have just had that for dinner.  Then it was get your own roast and vegies for main, followed by a fruit salad for dessert.  All in all the pizza was the best, and very similar to the one’s on 12WBT menu actually, delicious!  I ate about ¾ of that where could have and probably should have only had ½ of it, but anyway…for mains I went and chose one piece of roast chicken (no skin etc) and one small piece of roast beef then light vegies with no gravies etc as I can’t have it anyway.  Dessert was fruit salad and I shared it around.  Overall I ended up about 250cals over for the day, not too bad if I do say so myself!  I wasn’t worried by that at all.
Sunday – got up and went for my run, the first time I’d done 10k since the marathon in May and getting the hip stress fracture, I was over the moon!  Felt really strong too.  Meals for today was quite easy, own breaky, morning tea and afternoon tea, then for lunch they’d provided everyone ham & salad rolls so I asked for the same but without the roll.  It was lovely!  I got a bit of wholegrain mustard on the side so basically just had a little ham & salad.  Then in the afternoon it was off home back to Melbourne.  We arrived around 6pm so I quickly unpacked then went straight up to get the groceries for the week, made the chilli prawns (from week 1) for dinner and finished off a lovely weekend!  As I was making dinner I also made a lentil & vegie dish for lunches during the week and to freeze, then I made tuna bake for the OH to take to work, vacummed, cleaned up etc, changed sheets, did washing from the weekend and OMG what a weekend!  At about 9pm I sat down and was so proud of myself for keeping on top of the weekend, in control and having a blast!  It wasn’t anywhere near as hard and I thought it might have been.  I would have liked to have burnt more calories for SSS but that’s fine, I have plenty of time in the coming weeks to burn them all away.
